If you’re planning newborn photos in Jacksonville, there’s a good chance you’re somewhere between nesting and scrolling Pinterest at 2 a.m., wondering which images you’ll actually want on your walls twenty years from now.

Hi, I’m Laura! A Jacksonville newborn photographer, and for more than 15 years I’ve been swaddling, cuddling, and photographing brand-new babies for families from Nocatee to Riverside. Along the way I’ve learned which photos parents come back to again and again, and which ones end up framed above the crib, along the hallway, and on Grandma’s mantel in Ponte Vedra.

So I put together my list of the ten timeless newborn photos I always make sure to include. Read it with your feet up, because you don’t have to plan any of it yourself. I’ll guide the whole session, and you get to soak up your baby.

What Makes Newborn Photos Feel Timeless?

Timeless newborn photos come from soft natural light, simple styling, and real connection between you and your baby. My private natural-light photography studio in Jacksonville is set up for exactly that, with neutral wraps, warm textures, and a room temperature that keeps sleepy babies cozy (fair warning, the grown-ups usually find it a little toasty).

I keep colors soft and props minimal so your images look as lovely on your wall in 2046 as they do the day you hang them.

Timing matters too. Newborn photography in Jacksonville works best between 5 and 14 days after birth, while your baby is still curly, sleepy, and happy to be wrapped. I’ll reserve your spot based on your due date and adjust once your little one makes their entrance.

10 Timeless Newborn Photos to Include in Your Jacksonville Session

Here are the newborn photo poses I recommend for every family, along with a few notes on why each one matters and how it tends to look in your home once it’s printed.

Newborn Photo Pose 1: The Classic Wrapped Newborn Portrait

This is the newborn photo almost every family frames first. It’s your baby swaddled snug in a soft wrap, sleeping peacefully with that tiny pout you’ll miss the moment it’s gone. Wrapping helps newborns feel secure, so it’s usually where I begin while your baby settles in after a feed. I keep a full collection of luxury wraps in soft neutrals and textures, and I’ll pick colors that suit your nursery and the spot you’re imagining for your wall art.

Newborn Photo Pose 2: The Tiny Details

I always photograph the little things, like fingers curled around yours, wrinkly toes, eyelashes resting on round cheeks, the swirl of hair at the crown, and the curve of a tiny ear. You’ll swear you could never forget these details, and then one day your baby is wearing size four sneakers and you can’t quite remember how small those feet really were. Detail images look beautiful grouped together as a three-piece set in the nursery or on a spread in your heirloom album.

Newborn Photo Pose 3: Mom and Baby, Cheek to Cheek

Mama, you belong in these photos! I know the postpartum weeks don’t always leave you feeling camera-ready, and that’s exactly why professional hair and makeup are included and my client closet is stocked with soft, flowing gowns that are kind to a postpartum body. One of my favorite images is mom holding her baby close against her cheek with her eyes closed, breathing in that new baby smell. It’s simple and quiet, and it will mean more to you every single year.

Newborn Photo Pose 4: Baby in Dad’s Hands

Seeing a newborn tucked into dad’s big hands or resting along his forearm gets everyone a little teary at the reveal. The size difference tells the whole story of how new your baby is. I guide dads through these poses gently and with safety at the center, so even first-time dads who feel nervous holding a sleeping baby end up looking like seasoned pros.

Newborn Photo Pose 5: The Two of You Together

Before this baby arrived, it was the two of you, and this photo honors where your family started. I’ll pose you and your partner together with your baby nestled between you, looking down at your little one or softly at each other. It’s a sweet choice for your bedroom wall or the opening page of your album.

Newborn Photo Pose 6: Big Brother or Big Sister Meets Baby

If you’re adding to your crew, sibling photos are a must. Toddlers aren’t always on board with sitting still, so I keep this part short, playful, and early in the session before anyone gets tired or hungry. Big kids also get to pick something from my treasure box, which tends to be all the motivation they need. Even a few seconds of a big sister kissing her baby brother’s forehead is enough for a photo you’ll love forever.

Newborn Photo Pose 7: The Full Family Portrait

Grandparents everywhere will thank you for this one. I’ll make sure we get a classic portrait with everyone looking at the camera, plus a softer version where you’re all snuggled in and looking at your baby. Family and sibling portraits are included in your newborn session at no extra cost, and I’ll style everyone from my client closet, which has coordinated outfits for kids up to age five. That means no frantic trip to the St. Johns Town Center the week before your session.

Newborn Photo Pose 8: A Meaningful Heirloom Piece

Many families like to include something with a story behind it, like the blanket Grandma crocheted, a bonnet from your own baby pictures, a little nod to Duval with a tiny Jaguars knit, or a sign with your baby’s name. Layering a sentimental piece into one or two images gives your gallery a personal touch that’s completely yours. Tell me about it during planning and I’ll design a setup around it.

Newborn Photo Pose 9: The Birthday Suit Portrait

There’s something so sweet and timeless about capturing your newborn just as they came into the world. From their tiny toes and wrinkly little legs to every adorable baby roll, these are the details you’ll never want to forget. I keep baby warm, comfortable, and gently posed throughout the session so we can capture all that newborn sweetness in the most natural way.

Newborn Photo Pose 10: Baby and the Family Fur Baby

For a lot of Jacksonville families, the first baby had four legs, and I love bringing them into the session. A photo of your newborn with the family dog, whether it’s a golden retriever from Mandarin or a little doodle from Atlantic Beach, captures the very beginning of a lifelong friendship. As a dog mom myself, these are some of my favorite images to create. We’ll time it around your pup’s energy level and keep a parent close to your baby for every frame.

Why Should You Book Newborn, 6-Month, and 1-Year Milestone Photos?

If I could go back and tell new-mom me one thing, it would be to photograph the whole first year. My own kids’ baby pictures are a handful of quick snapshots living on a thumb drive in the back of a drawer, and I would love to have a real record of how they grew from newborn to toddler. That first year moves so fast, and your baby will look like a completely different little person every few months.

Newborn photos happen in those sleepy, curled-up first two weeks, when your baby fits perfectly in the crook of your arm and wrapped portraits are at their sweetest.

Six-month photos capture a baby who’s sitting up, grinning, grabbing toes, and showing off a whole personality. The smiles come easy at this age, which makes it one of my favorite sessions of the year. My Jacksonville infant photography guide goes deeper on this stage if you’d like to read more.

First birthday photos celebrate a brand-new toddler who’s pulling up on everything, maybe taking a few wobbly steps, and very proud of it. Seeing these three sessions side by side on your wall is one of the most emotional parts of my job.

How Does the First Year Collective Work?

My First Year Collective is my most popular collection, and it’s designed for moms who want this whole season documented without planning each session from scratch. It includes three or four sessions over fifteen months, typically your maternity session, newborn, six months, and first birthday, so you’re covered from bump to one. Here’s what’s included:

  • Access to my client closet for you and your kids at every session
  • Professional hair and makeup included
  • 60+ edited images to choose from for print or digital purchase
  • An in-studio design and ordering appointment after each session
  • A $200 album credit after each session, so your first-year album comes together as you go
  • 25 custom birth announcements
  • Gallery wall installation in your home

I only take 24 Collective families each year, so I recommend reaching out before your third trimester. If you’re still early in your pregnancy, my guide to maternity photos in Jacksonville is a lovely place to start dreaming about that first session.

What Is the Pure Life Photography Experience Like?

Every session I offer is full service, which means I take care of the details so you can show up and enjoy your family. Here’s what that looks like from our very first call to the day your art goes on the wall.

Photo Planning

After you reach out, I’ll get back to you within 36 hours to set up a quick call. We’ll talk through your due date, your style, who’s joining the session, and where you’re hoping to hang your photos, whether that’s above the sofa in your Avondale bungalow or up the stairwell of your St. Johns home. From there I’ll send my session guide so you know exactly what to expect, and we’ll schedule your wardrobe and styling appointment. For newborn sessions, I recommend booking in your second or early third trimester.

Client Closet Access

My client closet is usually where moms start to relax. It’s filled with flowing, flattering gowns that work beautifully for bumps and postpartum bodies, plus coordinated outfits for kids up to age five. For your baby, I have wraps, bonnets, and props ready to go, so you don’t need to pack a thing. At your styling appointment, we’ll try things on together and build a look for the whole family, and you get to skip the online shopping and returns entirely. If you’re curious how I think about color and coordination, my guide on what to wear for family photos in Jacksonville walks through it.

Styling, Hair, and Makeup

Professional hair and makeup are included with your session. Jessica, my hair and makeup artist, has been with the studio for more than three years, and she’s wonderful at helping tired new moms feel like themselves again. Grab a drink and a snack from the studio, settle into her chair, and let yourself be pampered for a little while before we start.

Your Newborn Session Day

Newborn sessions usually last two to three hours, and we follow your baby’s lead the entire time. We’ll pause for feeding, cuddles, and diaper changes whenever needed, and nobody is watching the clock. More than one mom has called me a baby whisperer, and after swaddling hundreds of babies over the years, I’m patient, gentle, and always focused on safety. You can read what other Jacksonville families have shared in my client reviews.

The Reveal and Ordering Appointment

Less than three weeks after your session, you’ll come back to the studio for your reveal, which is honestly my favorite part. We’ll look at your images together for the very first time (I keep tissues close by), and then I’ll help you choose your favorites and design artwork that fits your home, from a custom gallery wall to an heirloom album, along with any digitals you’d like. Everything I offer is American-made, and some pieces come from local artisan shops, so your heirloom art is built to be handed down.

White-Glove Photo Installation

About six to ten weeks after your reveal, I’ll personally deliver your order and professionally install your wall art. Candice, who handles framing installation for the studio and has a background in interior design, helps make sure every piece hangs at the right height and spacing for your room. I’m also happy to frame and hang favorite family photos I didn’t take, so your new pieces and old treasures can live together on one wall.

Newborn Photos in Jacksonville: Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book newborn photos in Jacksonville?

Your second or early third trimester is ideal. I’ll hold your date based on your due date and shift it once your baby arrives, whether they come early or fashionably late. If you’re interested in the First Year Collective, reach out before your third trimester so we can include a maternity session.

How old should my baby be for newborn photos?

Between 5 and 14 days old is the sweet spot. Babies are sleepier and more comfortable being wrapped and posed during those first two weeks.

How long does a newborn photography session take?

Plan for two to three hours. That gives us plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and breaks, so the session feels relaxed for you and your baby.

Do I need to bring outfits or props?

Nope. I provide wraps, bonnets, props, gowns for mom, and coordinated outfits for siblings up to age five. If you have a sentimental piece you’d like to include, bring it along and we’ll work it in.

What areas do you serve for newborn photography?

My private natural-light studio is in Jacksonville, and I photograph families from all over Northeast Florida, including Nocatee, Ponte Vedra, St. Johns, Mandarin, the Beaches, Riverside, Avondale, and San Marco. I also offer in-home and on-location sessions.
